Professor C.C. Wiley joined the teaching staff of the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Illinois in 1906 after spending two years doing railroad design work with private consultants. He remained with the University 46 years until his retirement in 1952. After his retirement he became Professor Emeritus there. During his lifetime he was the author of at least two principal books on highway engineering and surveying and was a prolific writer in highway and traffic matters.
Professor Wiley obtained his B.S.C.E. and Civil Engineering Degrees from the University of Illinois and had the honor of having the C.C. Wiley Traveling Award given in his honor. A senior student at the University of Illinois receives this award which provides a stipend for months of observation and study of highway engineering in various states. He was a member of ISPE, SAME, ASEE, ARBA, Chi Epsilon, Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, and Sigma Phi Delta.
