ITE Council Showcases and ITE Committee Meetings

Many of the ITE Councils and Committees will be hosting meetings during the Transportation Research Board (TRB) 103rd Annual Meeting, being held January 7–11, 2024 in Washington, D.C.

Below are the meetings currently scheduled. If you do not see a specific meeting, please check back or reach out to the Council/Committee liaison. 

The meetings will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center (where the TRB Annual Meeting is taking place). For information on how to get to this facility, click here.

All meetings are designed to be in-person. ITE is unable to provide audio/visual support for virtual participation. 

 

Sunday, January 7      
2:30–4:00 p.m. ET Data Committee

This session will focus on the strategic plan for 2024 of the data committee. The discussion will cover topics related to data Availability, Quality, Procedures, Standards, Sources and Tools; Data Governance, Regulations, Privacy, Sharing, and Security; ITE Member Workforce Development Needs for Data; and Data Use Cases, Strategies, Generators, and Consumers.

2:30–4:00 p.m. ET Electric Vehicle Electrification and Emission Reduction Working Group This meeting will be an opportunity to discuss current projects delivered by the working group in 2023, such as the 2023 ITE Developing Trend Exploration: Electrification white paper and the Equity in EV Charging Infrastructure Resource Portal. The group will also discuss activities for 2024, including a workshop with external partners involved in electrification, and other opportunities to become involved. Room 141
2:30–4:00 p.m. ET Transportation Forensics and Risk Management Learn about project updates and upcoming projects led by the ITE TFARM. Opportunities to get involved include the expert witness handbook, webinars on topics such as liability of connected vehicles and data analytics and how it may be entering forensic analysis of collisions, as well as various Quick Bites. 4:30–6:00 p.m. ET Traffic Engineering Council Showcase Highlight the projects and webinars that were completed in 2024 and present our plans for 2024. It will provide an opportunity for interested people to find out about the Traffic Engineering Council and what we do, plus find out about opportunities to become involved and help shape our profession. Monday, January 8      
10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. ET Education Council

This meeting will focus on emerging issues related to transportation education, such as generative artificial intelligence and the launch of the ITE Student Leadership Academy. We will also discussing ongoing efforts to engage the international ITE community, a proposed student competition that will build on the successes of Traffic Bowl, and planning for the Transportation Education Workshop that will be conducted in advance of the 2024 ITE Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.

10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. ET TSMO Council Showcase

The meeting will commence with introductions and 2024 plans, leading into updates on ITE HQ and standing committees, including CAV, Urban Goods Movement, and Smart Communities. Participants will receive updates from NOCoE, FHWA, AASHTO, and TRB. The agenda will conclude with discussions on collaboration opportunities and a group discussion involving all attendees.

12:30–2:00 p.m. ET Transportation Planning Showcase This will be a joint showcase for the Transportation Planning Council and its Committees (Transportation and Health, Sustainability, and Parking). Great opportunity to learn about the Urban Freeway Repurposing working group, the recent VMT as a metric for sustainability informational report, the new Parking Generation Manual, and other recently released products. Also, a chance to get involved in the upcoming projects. Room 141

Complete Streets Council Showcase

Discuss recently completed projects, on-going technical projects and ideas for future committee work on topics such as bike runnels, cycle tracks at skewed rail crossings, improving transit ridership, centering transit in quick builds, bicycle resources hub, e-bike travel within public right-of-way, using ITS technology to improve streets for all users, and signal timing practices for complete streets. The group will also discuss delivery of upcoming webinars and the development of technical sessions for the upcoming ITE Virtual Spring Conference.

4:30–6:00 p.m. ET Equity Committee During this meeting, the Equity Committee will provide an overview of their new products, such as the Equity Glossary and the Equity in Transportation technical brief, as well as next steps for 2024. This will be a good opportunity to get involved in the Committee efforts to provide historical context for the current state of the practice and educate the transportation community on the importance and application of equity in our profession. Tuesday, January 9      
10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. ET Safety Council Showcase The Safety Council showcase will be an opportunity to learn about ways to get involved with the Council’s 2024 projects and webinars, with topics that include a Safe System Approach student video competition, Safe Streets and Roads for All, safety action plans, connected/autonomous vehicles and safety, redefining functional roadway classifications, and kinetic energy measurement. This showcase will also include members of the Safety Council Committees (Data-Driven Safety Analysis, Transportation Forensics and Risk Management, and Vision Zero) who will provide updates for their Committee activities. 12:30–2:00 p.m. ET People-Centered Initiative This is a Steering Committee meeting of a new ITE initiative focused on people-centered transportation. This initiative promotes a paradigm shift in transportation by centering people’s mobility needs and well-being at the core of transportation work. At this showcase, the Steering Committee will determine its work plan for 2024. While space is limited, interested guests are welcome to listen in and learn more about ITE’s new People-Centered Initiative Room 141
12:30–2:00 p.m. ET DDSA Committee Learn about opportunities to get involved in the Committee’s projects and webinar that will explore the role of data-driven safety analysis in grant applications, tools such as iRAP and USRAP, and how data-driven safety analysis can support equity in safety. 4:30–6:00 p.m. ET ITE Roundabout Committee Roundabout committee meeting will be the first quarterly meeting of the year and kickoff the committee action plan tasks. Room 141
