WASHINGTON, DC — John Davis P.E., PTOE, RSP1 (F), was elected as the 2024 International President of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and candidate Karen Aspelin, P.E., PTOE (F), was elected as the 2024 International Vice President. Both will take office in January of 2024.
“John has a long history of leadership and service to ITE at the Section, District, and International levels and will be an outstanding ITE President. ITE was fortunate to have two outstanding candidates for International Vice President. As a two-term International Director, Karen will bring valuable leadership experience to her new role as International Vice President,” said Jeffrey F. Paniati, former ITE Executive Director and CEO.
John Davis is City Traffic Engineer in Des Moines, IA, and has been an active member of ITE since he began his transportation career more than 35 years ago. He has worked with both public agencies and private clients to provide effective and efficient solutions to their traffic planning, safety, operational, engineering and management concerns. He is a registered professional engineer in multiple states with multiple certifications from the Transportation Professional Certification Board. John has held office in five Districts and Sections and has lent his leadership and expertise to several ITE Councils and Committees over the years. He is currently serving as the ITE Vice President. John has been an integral part of the success of ITE’s Annual Collegiate Traffic Bowl, leading its production for the past 14 years. You can read more about John here.
Karen Aspelin is a technical Team Leader at Olsson in Colorado Springs, CO. Karen’s involvement with ITE includes representing both the Western and Mountain Districts on the ITE International Board of Direction, serving as vice chair for ITE’s K-12 STEM committee, and serving as president of ITE’s New Mexico Section and Western District. She was recently named Transportation Professional of the Year for the Colorado/Wyoming Section of ITE. Karen has more than 25 years of experience in transportation engineering and has served as the lead traffic engineer and project manager for a wide variety of projects in Colorado and throughout the Southwest.
