LeadershipITE Legacy Fund Scholarship

Through the generous contributions of our members, the ITE Legacy Fund Scholarship has become a transformative opportunity for deserving individuals. This prestigious scholarship covers the tuition expenses for the renowned LeadershipITE program, enabling recipients to enhance their leadership skills and shape their professional journey. It's important to note that while the scholarship covers tuition, travel expenses are not included.

2024 Recipients

 

LeadershipITE Fred Gorove Scholarship 

Fred Gorove, one of the founders of Gorove-Slade, Inc. and its long-time President, had a profound influence on the transportation industry. Fred was one of the first traffic engineers, and he mentored generations of other engineers. Fred passed away on May 1, 2017 and the Fred Gorove Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in August 2017 to memorialize him by providing a LeadershipITE scholarship annually for a minimum of 10 years. Later, Jack and Caroline Gould, long-time friends of Fred’s donated an additional $7,500 to extend this scholarship beyond 10 years.

2024 Recipient

LeadershipITE Consultants Council Scholarship 

The ITE Consultants Council is offering what they hope to be an annual scholarship beginning in 2024 to an applicant based upon a combination of things such as merit, financial need and whether the candidate’s District or Section offer local scholarships already.  A financial need for funding must be demonstrated. This scholarship is valid for tuition only.

2024 Recipient

Student Leadership Summits 

Established in 2014 by the California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo student chapter, ITE Student Leadership Summits (SLSs) have become a powerful tool for student members to obtain conference planning experience, professional development opportunities, and access to ITE leaders. More than one dozen SLSs have been held around North American and in Australia reaching more than 1,000 students. SLSs are organized by students for students. Your donations to the Legacy Fund provide important seed funds to get an SLS started while the students raise the $20,000 needed to put on a successful SLS. 

Matson-Hammond Mentoring Program

With support from both the Matson and Hammond Funds, the new Matson and Hammond Mentoring Program was established in 2018 to connect young members with experienced transportation professionals who can offer advice and guidance on career development. There are 100 mentors representing 150 mentoring slots available in the Matson-Hammond Mentoring Program. Roughly 65 mentoring engagements have been completed or are underway using the virtual mentoring platforms supported by the Matson and Hammond funds. Theodore M. Matson Fund 

Theodore M. Matson, one of ITE’s founders, contributed greatly to the common welfare through the advancement of the techniques of traffic engineering and through training of those in the profession. This fund was established many years ago to recognize and support excellence in the profession along with the Theodore M. Matson Memorial Award, one of the highest awards ITE bestows.

Harold F. Hammond Fellowship Fund 

Harold F. Hammond, an Honorary Member of ITE, served on the ITE International Board of Direction as Secretary-Treasurer, Vice President, and President, spanning 12 years. He served as an unpaid ITE staff member during ITE’s formative stage. The Harold F. Hammond Fellowship Fund was established to recognize and support the development of young professionals.

Diversity Scholars Program 

The Diversity Scholars Program was established in 2019. The purpose of this program is to increase underrepresented populations participation in the transportation profession by supporting increased diversity at the undergraduate level.

The program includes a financial scholarship of up to $20,000, a local ITE professional who will serve as a mentor, support from the ITE student chapter, and an internship with a local transportation firm.

This program is need-based and is open to any U.S. high school student of African-American; Native American, Alaskan, and Hawaiian; or Hispanic/Latino heritage with an interest in a career in transportation and seeking to study transportation engineering, planning, or in a related-field at a school with an established ITE Student Chapter. Preference is given to first-generation college students. For more information, click here.

Donate to the Legacy Fund

No contribution is too small and each one makes a difference. One hundred percent of all contributions go directly to support the Legacy and Diversity Scholars Programs.

Opportunities to shape your ITE legacy are as diverse as our members and can be customized based upon your area of interest. ITE Legacy Program Oversight Committee

The ITE Legacy Program Oversight Committee was established by the ITE Board of Direction in conjunction with the ITE Past Presidents’ Table. The Committee is chaired by the Immediate Past President and includes four additional Past Presidents. This committee advocates for donations to the Legacy Program and works with the ITE Executive Director and CEO to oversee the administration of the available funding and to establish annual program priorities.
