Holistic Vision Zero: Equitable, Sustainable and Healthy School Safety

When: October 31, 2024 | 2:00 - 3:30 PM ET

This webinar is led by the ITE Pedestrian Bike Steering Committee, in Partnership with the Equity Committee.

Webinar Description:

Vision Zero, a traffic safety initiative from Sweden, focuses on eliminating all traffic-related fatalities and severe injuries through a comprehensive approach. A holistic Vision Zero strategy is crucial for school districts to prioritize the safety of vulnerable road users, particularly students, by implementing safe routes, traffic calming, and crosswalk improvements.

This webinar will zoom in on successful elements of a holistic strategy through shared examples that illustrate Vision Zero concepts in implementation and inspire webinar guests to consider using a holistic/comprehensive approach for Vision Zero implementation within the context of public institutions (specifically PreK – 12 public education) to create equitable, sustainable and healthy school transportation options for the most vulnerable road users.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the PROWAG Guidelines
  • Recognize the steps remaining in the adoption process
  • Explain the critical design considerations from the PROWAG Guidelines
  • Identify changes necessary to typical pedestrian features such as ramps for PROWAG compliance.
