McTrans Course: Highway Safety Analysis based on HSM/HSS -- December

ITE has established a new partnership with the McTrans Center at the University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI). The McTrans Center (UFTI) is a unique organization of university and industry partners work to further the goals of safety and reliability in the transportation system through training and education in transportation technology. Its primary mission is to educate professionals in the use of the Highway Capacity Software (HCS) tool.

Course Description:

This course is designed for engineering, planning and road safety professionals who want to be familiarized with the Predictive Methods of the Highway Safety Manual and their applications, with a focus on the Highway Safety Software (HSS). It is also designed to provide a solid foundation for those studying for the PE exam.


Experienced instructor(s) will provide an overview of the methodology steps, highlighting key concepts, best practices, common limitations of the methods. Several example problems will be discussed in class, and students will have the opportunity to practice the use of the Highway Safety Software (HSS) to perform HSM predictive analyses.
