When: December 17, 2024 | 3:00 - 4:00 PM ET
This webinar is led by the ITE Traffic Engineering Council.
Webinar Description:
During the COVID pandemic, changes in travel were drastic and quite evident. Now that a few years have passed, some travel has returned to near normal, but not all. Remote/hybrid work and other factors continue to influence travel patterns from old norms. What has returned to expected patterns, what continues to be different, and what does our industry need to change to account for the changes?
ITE tasked the Traffic Engineering Council with collecting data and determining what travel trends are still different than before the pandemic. A Task Force was formed to identify and gather data from across the country and compare 2023/2024 with 2019 to determine what has changed. The plan is to not only assess national trends, but also to determine if there are any regional or urban vs rural differences. Data was collected on hourly, daily and monthly VMT. Some data was also collected on mode, auto ownership, major employer work models and other areas.
The purpose of this webinar is threefold: 1) Discuss the Phase 1 data collection effort; 2) Present for Phase 2, which involves reviewing and distilling the data to choose final evaluation factors and draw applicable conclusions; and 3) Hold a discussion with attendees to see if there is any other pertinent data available and any travel trends that they consider to observe. A Part 2 webinar is planned for 2025 to present our conclusions.
