Using Video Analysis and AI to Progress Safety
When: December 19, 2024 | 2:00 - 3:30 PM ET
This webinar is led by the ITE Traffic Engineering Council.
Webinar Description:
Traditionally, roadways and intersections are evaluated post-construction with crash data, observational data, and occasionally ground-based radar devices. Field observations of speeds, conflicts, and user interactions rely heavily on the observer's judgment, which is, at best, imprecise. These presenters are using video analytics (vehicles and other users) and artificial intelligence to predict conflicts and potential serious and fatal crashes for modern roundabouts, intersections, and roadways.
Using video and artificial intelligence software, the cases for the use of video analytics cover four critical areas of growing knowledge and expertise:
- Safety audits (in-service) of intersections, establishing a new standard for collision diagnosis.
- Establish methods of evaluating user conflict patterns as a surrogate for crash patterns to improve safety performance functions.
- As a data source to evaluate the effects of geometric design parameters.
- Proactive safety analysis (powered by AI) provides the ad.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the use of AI for Safety Analysis
- Explain Predictive Safety Analysis
- Proactively identify and address safety concerns
