Theodore M. Matson contributed greatly to the common welfare through the advancement of the techniques of traffic engineering and through training of those in the profession. The Theodore M. Matson Memorial Award honors outstanding contributions in the field of traffic engineering, including practical application of traffic engineering techniques or principles, valuable contributions through research, successful adaptation of research findings to a practical traffic situation and the advancement of the profession through training or administration.
